Media

Media are means and platforms through which NGO “FACE TO FACE“ creates, distributes and receives socially important information, using texts, photos, videos, audio and other formats to communicate with the community, highlight its activities and raise issues important to society.

Don’t be afraid of an exhaustive title! ))
It will be interesting here!

Info — information. Entertainment — entertainment. That’s all science.

We will talk about serious things here so that you don’t start looking for an emergency exit after the first paragraph.
Information is food for the brain, which is different. It can be artistically served and served on a silver plate to the sounds of an orchestra, it can be poured on the head in one pile, similar to a treasury, or it can be prepared in such a way that a person insists on the supplement.
We choose the third. The two previous entertainment categories are not provided here.

By the way, what is the first thing to serve here to immediately surprise? ))
For example, what do you know about ostracism?
No, this is not the name of a medical diagnosis or a new political talk show.
This is a historical example of the birth of the people’s love of freedom.

Ostracism appeared in Athens more than two and a half thousand years ago – around the beginning of the 5th century BC. the athenians
who even then had the uncanny ability to distrust people with excess power, devised a procedure by which the community could send a politician into exile for ten years.

No criminal case.
Without a court verdict.
Without detectives, searches and television marathons, and mask shows.
Citizens simply gathered and wrote the name of an undesirable person on a piece of earthenware – an ostracon.
The most shards are ten years out of power.

The most interesting thing about this simplicity is that democracy very quickly faces the same problem, as well as any person who entrusted someone with the keys to their own apartment: and suddenly this “someone” decides that the apartment is now his?

The Athenians were afraid of this very thing.
Not just a bad ruler.
Not just a criminal.
And a person who has become too influential.

So influential that one day she could decide: the people, of course, are important, but now let them stand aside for a while.
The first real sentence of popular disfavor arrived some 20 years after how free citizens established their order — approximately in 488–487 BC.

And what do you think? During the entire time of this civilized witch hunt, only a dozen or so “lucky” people are collected. No industrial scale – point, jewel blows on self-love!

But what figures were on their way out!

The first figures, the heavyweights of politics, whose names are still taught with a sigh: Aristides, the cunning Themistocles, the difficult and unyielding Cimon, Thucydides…
And how many other celestials like Pericles, Nicias or Alcibiades walked under this household sword, shuddering at night at every sound of clay rattling? They knew perfectly well the cost of their ambitions.
The Greeks called the procedure itself ostracophoria – if translated literally, “carrying shards”. And it was an ingenious, surprisingly civilized weapon of an angry common man.
This tool was not invented for the sake of bloodshed or medieval executions. Absolutely not! It was created in order to keep the greedy, grizzled aristocracy in its hedgehog mittens and direct all this dirty inter-party jostling not into street corner fights, but into a peaceful, completely legal channel.

Did you believe in your own uniqueness? Decided that you are the master of the universe here, and the citizens are just background scenery?
Please, collect your treasure for a ten-year exile to think about the impermanence of being somewhere on the outskirts of the oikumena. No one will allow turning a shared home into a private bench.

Sensations are events, news or facts that attract extraordinary attention, cause strong public interest, surprise or wide resonance.

THE DAY WHEN UKRAINE BREAKED THE IMPERIAL SCRIPT
There are historical events that happen with fanfare.
And there are those after which the world changes — and people still do not have time to understand what just happened.
On December 1, 1991, such an event took place.

Ukrainians were asked just one question:
“Do you confirm the Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine?”

And the country said:
YES.

Not Kyiv alone. Not Lviv alone. Not “the west of Ukraine”.
All of Ukraine.

More than 31.8 million citizens took part in the referendum. 90.32% — 28,804,071 people — supported independence.
The referendum was held in all 27 administrative regions of Ukraine — from Lviv to Donetsk, from Chernihiv to Crimea, from Kyiv to Sevastopol.
And this is where the fun begins.

CRIMEA SAID “YES”
Today it sounds almost like a historical provocation.
But this is a fact.
In Crimea, 54.19% of referendum participants voted for independence.
In Sevastopol — 57.07%.
In Donetsk region — 83.90%.
In Luhansk — 83.86%.

That is, at the moment when Ukraine left the Soviet Union, its citizens in the east and south of the country also put a cross in front of the word “independence”.

Moscow did not decide.

Not Washington.
Not Brussels.
The Ukrainians decided.
And this is fundamental.

AND NOW – LET’S GO BACK A FEW MONTHS
On August 24, 1991, the Verkhovna Rada declared Ukraine an independent democratic state. The Act stated: the territory of Ukraine is indivisible and inviolable, and only the Constitution and laws of Ukraine are valid on its territory.

346 People’s Deputies voted for this Act.
But even then, the final word was not left to the parliament.
He was given to the people.
There was only one question on the ballot. Without political equilibrium. Without forty points in small print.

Do you confirm or not?
And the people confirmed it.

AND THIS IS WHERE IT GETS REALLY INTERESTING
The USSR still existed at that time.
Formally.

The Union government still sat in Moscow. Soviet institutions still existed. The document that would put an official end to the history of the Union has not yet been signed.
But after the Ukrainian “YES” the construction began to fall no longer as a forecast, but as a fact.

Ukraine was the largest Soviet republic after Russia in terms of population and territory. Its departure from the Union made the prospect of preserving the USSR in its old form practically illusory.
The empire still stood.
But its foundation was already empty.

THE BIGGEST SENSATION
We used to say:
On August 24, 1991, Ukraine declared independence.
This is true.

But historically, something else is even more important:
On December 1, 1991, the Ukrainian people turned the proclamation into an irreversible political reality.

Not a few politicians.
Not a group of dissidents.
Not a revolutionary army.
Millions of people.

They came to the polling station and set a mark that changed the map of Europe.
And perhaps that is why this story is still so uncomfortable for everyone who likes to explain Ukrainian independence by someone else’s will.
Because a simple, almost ruthless fact remains in the archives: 90.32%.

This is not a myth.
Not a legend.
Not a political transfer.
This is the result of the vote.
Sometimes the story doesn’t scream.
Sometimes she just ticks the box.

Empires after that can pretend for a while that nothing happened.
But history has already decided everything.

THE DAY WHEN UKRAINE BREAKED THE IMPERIAL SCRIPT
There are historical events that happen with fanfare.
And there are those after which the world changes — and people still do not have time to understand what just happened.

A WORLD THAT BREAKS THE IMAGINATION
Our planet is a grand, living organism, an incredible museum of surreal art and a limitless laboratory of evolution, where the laws of physics and biology create real magic every day.
Imagine forests where the trees glow in the dark with a ghostly blue light, as if you’re walking through a scene from Avatar.
Look at the depths of the oceans, where creatures with bioluminescence technologies live, in front of which any human illumination pales, or on an endless desert that suddenly blooms with millions of crystal lakes.
The fauna of the planet is no less impressive: birds that skillfully imitate the sounds of a human chainsaw or car alarm, amphibians that are able to completely regenerate their own organs, and the ancient migrations of millions of animals moving in sync with the Earth’s invisible magnetic compass. Nature does not just exist – it surprises, shocks, frightens with its greatness and makes the heart freeze with delight.

The most amazing secrets, picturesque landscapes and pulsating living energy are waiting for us right next to us – let’s start the journey from our hometown,
unique Ukraine.
Ukraine, which you did not know, exists just nearby. Many kilometers of underground labyrinths are hidden under our feet, creatures live in our forests that can surprise even an experienced naturalist, and among the landscapes we are used to, there are places that seem like scenery for a fantasy film.

The most amazing secrets picturesque landscapes and pulsating living energy await us very close. So let’s start with our native, unique Ukraine.

A river that remembers dinosaurs. What does the Dniester Canyon hide?
Have you ever touched a rock that witnessed the birth of life on Earth? In the Dniester Canyon, time flows differently – here the age of individual rocks reaches an incredible 420 million years. These are not just numbers, this is an era when the planet was just beginning to “breathe”, and hundreds of millions of years remained before the appearance of the first dinosaurs.
The Dniester didn’t just make its way through the mountains — it created a giant “time machine.” Its steep shores reveal layers that preserve the imprints of ancient seas and the secrets of geological catastrophes that shaped the appearance of our planet.

There is another world under Ukraine
230 kilometers underground: the largest labyrinth that Ukraine hides from tourists
Imagine: you are standing in the middle of an ordinary Ukrainian field – and just below you stretches an entire underground city, created without a single architect.
In the Ternopil Oblast, the Optimistichna cave is hidden, one of the longest gypsum cave labyrinths in the world.

It was officially recognized as a geological monument of nature back in 1971.
And now — the most interesting. The explored passages of the cave stretch for more than 257 kilometers. This is not one huge hall, but a real labyrinth with corridors, halls, branches and underground “areas”.
And all this is under ordinary Ukrainian soil.

We walk on the surface, grow bread,
we build roads and do not even realize that a few tens of meters down, another world begins.
A world that is still not completely solved.
Ukraine has territories where it is not necessary to fly to another planet. Sometimes it’s enough to just go underground.

Synevyr: the most beautiful lake of Ukraine appeared due to a mountain collapse
It is hard to believe that this Carpathian beauty began with a disaster.
About 10,000 years ago, a huge landslide blocked the valley, blocking the way for water. So nature, in fact, in one moment, placed a stone “zagata” – and the birth of Synevir began.
Water slowly filled the basin, forming the largest natural lake of the Ukrainian Carpathians. Today it lies among the mountains, surrounded by spruce trees, as if it had always been there.
But Synevyr reminds us of one amazing thing: nature does not know the word “in vain”.
What looked like destruction became beauty. What could have seemed like a disaster turned into one of the grandest places in Ukraine.
Sometimes nature destroys to create something more beautiful.

Trees that are older than states
Title: “They saw princes, Cossacks and empires. The oldest trees of Ukraine”
A wonderful format: individual trees as living witnesses of history.
Not “here is an oak that is 1000 years old”, but:
“While people were rewriting borders on maps,
he just stood there. And it continued to grow.”

It’s very much your style.

Animals that Ukraine almost lost — and returned
Once they were masters of Ukrainian forests and steppes. Then people began to shoot them, cut down forests, develop steppes – and nature began to rapidly lose its inhabitants.
Bison, lynx, bears, wild horses – some species are on the verge of extinction. seemed to a little more – and they will remain only in old photos and textbooks.
But something unexpected happened.
People began to protect them, breed them and return them to the places where they once lived. And nature has proven: if you give it a chance, it knows how to win back what it lost.
Today, in Ukrainian forests, you can once again meet a bison, hear the howl of a lynx, and in the Carpathians – to see the tracks of a brown bear.
This story is not only about animals.
This is a story about a second chance. And that even almost lost nature sometimes returns — if people finally stop interfering with it.

The Carpathians are still growing. And the Earth under them did not calm down
We are used to thinking of mountains as something frozen. They stand for millions of years – majestic, like decorations for eternity.
But the Carpathians are still changing.
They arose as a result of the movement of huge plates of the earth’s crust. The breeds were pressed together, pressed against each other, rose from the depths – and this is how the mountains that we see today were gradually born.
And this process is not over.
The earth’s crust under the Carpathians continues to move. Slowly – so slowly that a person will not notice it. But for geology, even millimeters matter.
So when you stand on top of the Carpathians and look at the horizon, remember: under your feet is not a museum exhibit. The planet continues to work.
Mountains grow.
The earth is moving.
And we just live on its surface – and we don’t even feel how alive it is.

The Ukrainian sky, where you can see the universe
In the city, we have almost forgotten what the night really looks like. Lanterns, signs, searchlights – we illuminate everything around us, and at the same time we erase millions of stars from the sky.
But it is worth moving away from big cities – and the sky suddenly becomes different.
In the Carpathians, in the steppes and other places with low light pollution, you can see what almost disappears above the city: the Milky Way, thousands of stars, meteor showers, and sometimes even a faint glow of the atmosphere.
And then a strange thing happens.
You raise your head – and suddenly realize that above you is not just a “starry sky”. There is the universe. No scenery, no screen,
without filters.
We are used to thinking that we have to fly somewhere for a big discovery. In fact, sometimes it is enough to go outside the city, turn off the phone and just look up for a few minutes.

Sometimes you just need to turn off the lights to see the universe.

“The most important journey a man can take is the journey within himself.”
(Rainer Maria Rilke)

We live in a time when information has become more than silence, speed – more than thoughts, and thoughts – more than our own.
We are told every day what to buy, who to support, what to fear and what to talk about. Success is sold to us, thoughts are imposed on us, they measure popularity by numbers and convince that a person must always be in a hurry somewhere.

But there is a question that no algorithm can answer:
And where are we in a hurry as people?

Spiritual growth is not necessarily about religion. And definitely not a set of the right words about goodness, love and morality.
This is much more difficult work.
learn to think when everyone around has already decided for you.
To remain human when it is easier to become a cynic.
To forgive without allowing yourself to be humiliated.
To admit one’s mistakes without losing one’s dignity.
Having the strength to say no when the crowd is shouting yes.

The war especially acutely posed to Ukrainians the question not only of how to endure physically, but also of who would remain after the victory.
Because the country can be rebuilt from concrete, glass and metal. Roads, houses, businesses can be restored.

But if hatred and indifference remain inside a person, greed and contempt for the other – no reconstruction will be complete.
Therefore, spiritual growth is also about responsibility.

In front of you. Before others. Before those who came before us. And before those who will come after us.
It is about the ability to see a person where others see only social status, political views, money, profession or mistake.

About the ability to stop in front of a beautiful lie.
About the ability not to sell conscience for convenience.
About the ability to leave behind not only property, positions and photos, but also something that will continue to work after us.
A book. Act. an idea A child who was taught to think. A person who was helped up.

That is why we talk about spiritual growth not as ready-made answers, but as a space for questions.

About books that change the way you look at the world.
About the art that returns the ability to feel to a person.
About a story that reminds us at what price our freedom was created.
About nature, in front of which it suddenly becomes clear, how small we are – and how big life can be.
About places of strength, where people have been looking for silence for centuries.
About the Ukrainian spiritual heritage, which should not only be preserved, but also reinterpreted and continued.
And, after all, about the most difficult meeting — the meeting of a person with himself.

No cameras. No likes. Without spectators.
There, where it will no longer be possible to play a role.
Because spiritual growth does not begin when a person considers himself better than others.
It begins when she dares to be more honest with herself.

We do not intend to teach anyone how to live.
We want to search together for something worth living for.

“A person who does not know how to rest, after all, does not know how to work.”

We have a suspicious custom of being proud of fatigue.
“There is no time.”
“Not for that now.”
“Then I’ll rest.”

And this “later” for some reason is constantly postponed indefinitely.
We have learned to work ourselves to exhaustion, read the news to sleeplessness, run even when no one is chasing us.
And then we wonder why life turns into an endless to-do list.
But rest is not weakness and not a reward for having finally done everything.
In a rightly lived life, there should be room not only for duty, but also for joy.

For non-business travel.
For a book that you don’t read because you have to.
for the movie after which you want to argue until the night.
For music you listen to at full volume.
For a walk through the city, in which you suddenly notice a house that you have passed a hundred times.
For friends with whom you can talk about everything and nothing.
For laughs. So simple that sometimes it saves better than serious speeches.

Leisure is also a part of culture.
How a person rests says a lot about how he lives.
Therefore, we are interested not only in popular tourist routes and fashionable places. We want to find Ukraine that you can admire in your free time.

Cities and towns worth seeing.
Museums that are not boring.
Theaters, after which you don’t want to immediately return to the phone.
Parks, natural locations and trails for those who sometimes just need to get away from the asphalt.
Festivals, concerts, exhibitions, fairs and events where people meet not for protocol.

Places for family recreation.
Places for friends.
Places for those who like to travel alone.

And even small joys close to home, which we often overlook, because we are used to looking for something grandiose.

Because Ukraine is not only a country that needs to be protected, rebuilt and reformed.

It is also a country in which you have to learn to live.
Laugh. Fall in love. Travel. Dance. Look at the stars. Eating ice cream on the embankment. To go somewhere for no particular reason.
Life should not begin after victory, after repair, after another deadline or after “everything settles down”.
Life happens now.
And if we want to build a strong country, there should be a place not only for heroism and work.
There should be a place for joy in it.

Because a nation that knows not only to endure, but also to enjoy life, is a nation that is very difficult to defeat.

“A nation that knows how to laugh at its failures is invincible.”
(Mark Twain)

There are things that cannot be seriously explained.

For example, why do you need to first stamp the paper that you are allowed to get another paper with a stamp that you have the right to sign the first paper.
Or why a person who talks for three hours about the fight against bureaucracy, will definitely ask you to fill out another form.
Sometimes reality is so absurd that the satirist has only to sit down and write.

Humor is not an escape from reality. It’s a way to keep reality from going completely crazy.
Ukrainians have known this for a long time.
We laughed when it was scary.
They joked when they wanted to cry. They came up with jokes where, it would seem, there was nothing left but rage.
Because laughter returns a person’s sense of superiority over the absurd.

Satire does even more.
It takes what the government, the system, the crook, or the narcissistic fool tries to present as great, and holds a mirror up to it.

Without makeup.
Without a protocol.
Without consent.

And suddenly it turns out that the emperor has been without clothes for a long time, and for some reason his solemn speech is very reminiscent of a stand-up act.

We love humor that makes you laugh.

And especially the one after which it becomes a little uncomfortable.
Because a good joke can do what sometimes ten pages of analytics can’t.
Show the obvious.
Ask an awkward question.
Break pathos.
Bring back common sense.

And sometimes it’s just to save a person from wanting to smash the monitor against the wall after another “extremely important” piece of news.

Here we will collect funny, absurd, ironic and satirical.

Folk jokes and modern memes.
Witty sayings and paradoxes.
Stories in which life itself wrote the script.

Satire on bureaucracy, corruption, political theater, societal stereotypes and our everyday ability to solemnly complicate simple things.

But there is a limit.
We don’t laugh at other people’s pain.
Do not use humor as a weapon against the weak. We do not humiliate a person for the sake of likes. Do not confuse wit with rudeness.

Because it is easy to offend.
And to make people laugh intelligently is already an art.
Therefore, almost everything is allowed here.
Except boredom.
And common sense.
We will also check it sometimes.
Laugh dear, because sometimes it is the shortest way to the truth.

Laugh because you are worth it!
